They are a tax usually levied on imported goods, although they may also be imposed on exported goods, by the customs authorities of your country to raise.

Such tariffs vary mostly depending one the type of the products:

"Every product is identified by a numeric code number (customs nomenclature (or Combined nomenclature (CN) in the EU) determining the applicable rate of customs duties."

Example of a technical product declared to Customs in the Community:
- CN code for MP3s: 85198131
- Rate: 9% of the declared value
